Ten tips and tricks to extend your BlackBerry Z10 battery life

A new device means a new battery -- and new questions on just how long it lasts.

We've been able to make it through a full work day with a single battery on the BlackBerry Z10, and we can imagine the larger battery of the BlackBerry Q10 will be even better.

Everyone's device use varies, but for most of us, we really just need to make it through the day.

Some are heavy users and others aren't, so what might be great battery life for you won't be so great for others.

If you are a heavy user and want to maximize your battery life on your BlackBerry 10 device - look no further.

We've assembled ten tips you can use to make sure you are getting the most out of your battery.

TURN OFF WIFI, BLUETOOTH & NFC
This one is a no brainer. Turn off whatever you're not using to save on battery. If you're out somewhere with no WiFi - turn it off. Same goes for Bluetooth and NFC. These guys will eat a bit of your battery if left on, so when you aren't using them simply turn them off. On the same note, when you do have WiFi access be sure to take advantage of it - being on a WiFi network will greatly help your battery life.

Go to Settings > Network Connections to turn these features on or off

DIM THE DISPLAY
There is no auto-dim for the backlight on the BlackBerry Z10, but turning it down can help save precious battery life. The brighter the screen, the more battery you'll lose. So keep it down with 10-20% and you will be treating your battery better and it will thank you.

To turn down the display brightness, go to Settings > Display

While there is no stated "auto-dim" setting, BlackBerry did have this to say about the display:

We spent a lot of time developing the "GLO" algorithm ("Garber Light Optimization", after the engineer who developed it) to automatically adjust the display backlight setting to provide the user with the same perceived brightness regardless of the ambient illumination level. The slider moves that auto-dimming curve up and down to match a user's preference.

CHANGE THE SCREEN TIMEOUT
This one can be a big help too. Most times there is no reason why you need to leave your screen on for more than 30 seconds after you use the device, so keeping this down from the minute range can be a huge
help. It will turn off the screen faster and save on battery. Heck, you can even jump down to 10 seconds and really feel good.

Turn down the screen timeout by going to Settings > Display

LOCK YOUR DEVICE OR USE A HOLSTER
When you're on the go, make sure your device is locked and stowed away
so you don't "pocket dial". On the Z10 this is pretty easy since it
will lock on it's own when you're not using it, but you can kick it up
and use a holster to put the device to sleep as well. Making sure the
screen is locked keeps you from accidentally pressing icons and having
your Z10 do crazy things in your pocket.

You can even disable the
swipe to unlock gesture under display settings to keep it from
accidentally turning on.

CHANGE REFRESH SETTINGS
If you use a lot of social media or news apps, make sure you keep your
refresh settings at a high interval. Having something set to refresh
every five minutes will quickly eat away at battery life. In most
cases, you can get away with having apps refresh at one hour or more
(depending on your needs). So keep them high.

CHANGE YOUR NETWORK
If you're killing your battery you can always go to extreme measures
and drop down your network. Chaning from LTE or 4G to GSM (2G) will
help conserve battery in desperate situations. Some devices (like my
unit on AT&T) may not have this option, but if it's there you can
always give it a shot.

Find this setting in Settings > Network Connections > Mobile Network

CLOSE ACTIVE FRAMESNot all Active Frames update in the background, but a lot of them do.
Things like battery apps or weather apps will refresh on their own if
you leave them open, and in turn eat up battery (although not a lot).
So when you're not using apps be sure to close out the Active Frame to
ensure that they aren't updating in the background and chipping away
at your battery.

USE IMAP
Instead of using Exchange ActiveSync for email when setting up your
accounts, go IMAP instead. IMAP can be set to poll at intervals so you
won't constantly be pulling in mail and killing your battery. If you
aren't worried about instant notification, this can be a huge help to
battery life.

CHARGE!
Duh. Want to keep your battery going? Charge it! I always have a
charger in my office, bedroom and car so when I'm just floating around
I can plug in and get some extra juice. Then when I head out, I know
I'm topped off and ready to rock. I've made it a habit to just plug in
when I'm around a charger so I never worry about my battery dying when
I need it most.

BlackBerry Z10 Charging Solutions

ACCESSORIZE

Want to be extra sure you never your Z10 never dies? Pick up the
BlackBerry Battery Charger Bundle for the BlackBerry Z10 and carry it
with you. Seriously. One of the great things about BlackBerry is being
able to swap out the battery, so why not take advantage of that? Carry
this one in your pocket, purse or briefcase and never be without extra
power. You can charge an extra battery in it or plug the unit itself
into your Z10 for some extra juice. At night, you can charge your
device AND the spare battery at the same time. What else could you
want??

Nokia Secret Codes

Here are some useful secret codes for Nokia S60 phones to get system information, such as IMEI and software version
In order to enter these codes, the phone must be in the idle screen, not in any of the menu screens. The idle screen is where you see the operator name, date, time, battery level, signal strength.

*#06# - Displays the IMEI (GSM standard).

*#2820# - Displays the Bluetooth device address of your phone.

*#62209526# - Displays the MAC address of the WLAN (wireless lan) adapter. This is available only in the newer devices that support WLAN.

*#7370# - Resets your phone to the default factory settings. Usually you will need this code when you want to reset your phone back to the same condition when you got it for the first time. When the phone ask for security code, the default one is 12345 unless you have specified one yourself.

Warning: Before you do reset the phone, make sure that you don’t have important data and that you know the security code for your phone. Your data on the phone memory will be lost once you reset it.

*#7780# - This will soft reset your phone. It is different from *#7370# because all data, like contacts, calendar and notes, are not removed. It will only reset the phone settings, such as profiles, themes and shortcuts. The default lock code is 12345.

*#0000# - To view software version.

*#67705646# - This will clear the LCD display(operator logo).

*#92702689# - Takes you to a secret menu where you may find some of the information below:
1. Displays Serial Number.
2. Displays the Month and Year of Manufacture
3. Displays (if there) the date where the phone was purchased (MMYY)
4. Displays the date of the last repair - if found (0000)
5. Shows life timer of phone (time passes since last start)

*#3370# - Enhanced Full Rate Codec (EFR) activation. Increase signal strength, better signal reception. It also help if u want to use GPRS and the service is not responding or too slow. Phone battery will drain faster though.

*#3370* - (EFR) deactivation. Phone will automatically restart. Increase battery life by 30% because phone receives less signal from network.

If you forgot wallet code for Nokia S60 phone, use this code to reset: *#7370925538#
Note, your data in the wallet will be erased. Phone will ask you the lock code. Default lock code is: 12345 .

Mobile Battery tips

If your mobile battery is troubling you in between your work and you feel like throwing away your set, then try these tips , they might be useful .

Reserve battery: Nokia instrument comes with a reserve battery. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your cell will restart withthis reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery.Thisreserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time.

Turn Down Screen Brightness: The screen is one of the most power-consuming parts of the mobile phone. The lower the brightness, the lesser power it needs. Keep it as low as you can, so long as you can still see it! Also, some phones like the E61 and the BlackBerry Pearl come with auto-adjust features that increase the brightness in brightly lit areas and dim it in low-light areas. If you're setting the brightness low, make sure that auto-adjust is turned off.

Don't Use Animated Wallpapers or Screensavers: The animations in wallpapers and screensavers can drain a bit of battery as they also consume a wee bit of CPU. Turn them off.

Turn Off Keypad Lights: If you've been using the phone for a while, you may be able to use the keys without seeing them. If this is the case, the keypad backlight can be turned off. However, not a lot of phones support this, but it's worth considering if your phone does.

Decrease Screen Standby Time Out: The time till your screen dims out and/or gets turned off is configurable in most phones. 10 seconds is good, 5 seconds is better. Set it as low as you can go without it becoming inconvenient.

Close Background Applications:
If you're using a Smartphone, close applications that you don't need. Applications that stay active in the background use up a bit of CPU, which uses up battery. Make sure you 'exit' the applications from the menu, not by pressing the 'End' key, as that merely puts the application in the background. In Series 60 Smartphones (mostly Nokias), hold down the 'Menu' key to get a list of all applications running in the background to close them. In Windows Mobile 5 phones, open the 'Memory' application and check the 'Running programs' tab to close them.

Turn Off Vibration: Probably the second most power-consuming feature of any mobile phone is the built-in vibration alert. See if you can do without it.

Turn Down Ringer Volume, Keypad Tones and Speaker During Calls: If you're mostly indoors, like in the office or at home, a low ringer volume can go a bit towards saving your battery. Most phones also have DTMF-like keypad tones, which are not necessary if the keypad has decent tactile feedback. I keep them turned off most of the time — you can try it too. Volume of the earpiece when you're on a call can also be lowered, and that helps too.

Disable Voice Clarity / EFR / Voice Privacy: Almost all phones now do Enhanced Full Rate (EFR) for voice communication that consumes a little more power. In most cases, the enhanced quality of EFR doesn't make a difference thanks to the high noise levels in our city. Keep it off, you probably won't miss it. Some phones (mostly Samsungs) have a 'voice privacy' feature which can also be turned off to save battery.

Turn off 3G / GPRS / EDGEMost 3G/UMTS/WCDM: A phones keep searching for 3G coverage by default. In India, they'll keep searching till 2008, draining your battery, so go to the network selection screen and choose GSM-only. If your phone has a secondary camera near the screen, it's a 3G phone. Check your phone’s specs on the website if you aren't sure. Sometimes, even regular GPRS or EDGE connections stay active in the back, so make sure you specifically disconnect when you're done browsing the web.

Use Bluetooth and WiFi Only While Transferring: If you only use Bluetooth occasionally to transfer files to and from other devices, there's probably no point keeping it on all the time. Most phones only come with an on/off setting for Bluetooth, unlike the 'Turn on for 10 minutes' setting available for Infrared in some phones (mostly Sony Ericssons). People tend to forget about Bluetooth being left on after transferring the file — avoid doing this. Same goes for WiFi, if you're phone has that.

Here's another tip — find a USB cable if your phone supports recharging via USB: The Motorola RAZR/KRZR/SLVRs and most Windows Mobile Smartphones have a standard miniUSB slot that can use the same cable as most digital cameras. You're more likely to find one of these lying around somewhere than a charger for your phone, unless it's a Nokia, of course.

Finally, if you've tried everything else above then the only remedy will be don't use the phone too much.

SAMSUNG A800 SECRET CODES

The universal unlock code is *2767*637# do this with out your sim in
By default, the firmware (software) for x600 only receives java
apps and other applications like stuff by serial port.
but even for it, you have to enable the serial port, which also
causes
the closing of all other ports, even the IrDA too :-( ..
well, guess what, i have very good news for you,
do you know, you can increase the sound level,
the sound level for tones, speaker fone, etc,
can be increase even then if it is at max (level 4)
you still can do it,
just follows the instructions!

**************** HERE WE GO **************
Enter the following code:
*#8999*8378#
(You'll be shown menu, then ...)
then go to:
"H/W test"
then go to:
"Audio Settings"

then go to:
"Melody Gain"

There will you see a number.
there are five (5) Melody Levels" of it.
(and currently, you are at level 1 and after
pressing the "save" button, you will move to
level 2 and so on .........................)
you have to change the values of all the levels.
and as the resultant, it will give increase the
melody sound!, your tones will more louder,
even more louder then the max. ringing volume.
the level wise numbers are: (as its my setting :-) )

Melody Level 1: 13
Melody Level 2: 17
Melody Level 3: 18
Melody Level 4: 25
Melody Level 5: 31
you even can make your own combinations of level wise
sounding numbers that can change the sound level!.

if your combination cause more louder sound level,
then mine,
then do share it with the group! ... :-)
meanwhile, try my figured-out combination!
************ CAUTION ************
if anything goes wrong,
then you can apply the master reset code,
that will NOT delete anything, ANYTHING from your
cell fone, but set each and eveything to its
default/standard setting ...
(likes, factory settings :-) )
the master reset code is:
#*7728#

#########################################
I take no responsibility of these codes are working or not,
or its effects on your cell fone
but i have tried these codes on my cell fone.
and i bet, nothing goes wrong,
but even then of my words, be carefull!,
#########################################
The code: *#8999*8378#
as i regarded it a informative code,
will tell you each and everything about your cell fone.
and in the "H/W test",
there are lot of other Audio settings,
each of them having five (5) levels,
you can change the combination, but before doing anything,
do write the defult number sequence to some place so that
you'll be then able to invert it again! .. :-) ...

Flash Player comes to iPhone (JAILBROKEN iPhones ONLY)

iMobileCinema is a MobileSafari plugin which allows for playback of Flash (flv) video on the iPhone. You can watch videos from podcast sites or blogs with it; such as, Google Video, Youtube, and others.

A beta version of iMobileCinema has just been released for 2.x iPhones and can be installed via Cydia. You will need to add the d.imobilecinema.com source first. [iClarified]

How to use Emoji icons on an English Keyboard

This works for Jailbroken iPhones…
Simply open Cydia and find the Emoji Iconset Hack. Once installed, go to your Settings on your iPhone and find the Keyboard section. Click International Keyboards. Select Japanese and then ONLY turn on Emoji.
Now when you write email or SMS you have an extra button on your keyboard that will open the Emoji Section and give access to literally hundreds of awesome icons. However in our initial test, the icons don’t appear on other iPhones NOT running 2.2, and emailing these icons doesn’t actually appear on PC’s or Mac’s (even running Mobile Me), so I’m not quite sure how cool this hack is! But hey… I love these icons!

Hack of the Week….

We love the new Macbook White Keyboard theme for Winterboard. It really is a MASSIVE improvement over the standard keyboard and makes typing a whole lot easier.
Recommended for anyone who has jailbroken their iPhone. In Cydia search for Macbook White Keyboard.

PS: After feels
1. ting clear resounding. Except village in a mountainous area machine. Was loudest one section. Moreover does not have the variant pronunciation most greatly. The treble bass acoustic fidelity is very good
2. the signal is good. Talks over the telephone clearly. Office in 40 buildings. Signal very bad .NOKIA can be off and on. And hits a while suddenly not to have the signal. Or is places on the table. The signal turns before long does not have. The black raspberry was very stable. Moreover the answering telephone conversation is very clear.
3. treats the aircraft commander. If waits for an opportunity for 4 days according to a model of handset, that does not calculate is long, but the black raspberry's ultra big width screen can also achieve waits for an opportunity for 4 days. Is NB really
4. the screen is exquisite, the demonstration effect is good. In addition the black raspberry's opposition to Japan illuminates technology. Even if is the ultra big sun. Can also be able to see clearly.
5. the radiation is small. Beforehand NOKIA 6070.1 incoming letter numbers. The screen starts to shake. Therefore I can know in advance that is comes the telephone or comes the short note. Looked that screen's vibration knew. Side present's black raspberry places. Has come the telephone and the short note 0.1 responses does not have.
WAP surfer hypothesis
1. brings the browser to be unable to use CMWAP to access the net
2. as a result of present CMWAP/CMNET current capacity merge. Therefore suggested that uses the CMNET way. Uses OPREA MINI.
3. the option - > the high-level establishment - > TCP - > APN inputs the CMNET preservation then.
after 4.8700 4.2.114ROM, does not need to activate MDS., therefore MDS may not use the tube. After establishing APN, might.

Detecting mobile devices using PHP

The developers will be happy to find this info which I bumped into today. Hand Interactive has published an article on how to detect a mobile device using PHP.

“Don’t you wish there were an easy way to detect whether your web site visitor is connecting with a desktop PC or a mobile device of some sort?
The good news is that using PHP (or another server-based scripting language), it’s sort of easy to detect some devices by parsing the UserAgent string. Because the code is run on the server rather than in the browser itself (such as JavaScript), these PHP-based techniques yield better reliability in detecting mobile devices. Just remember that there are lots of important caveats, including:
  • These technqniques depend on the contents of the UserAgent string. As a result, these techniques may not work if the browser is emulating a different one (e.g., some mobile browsers can be set to emulate Internet Explorer).
  • Mobile operators can also change the UserAgent contents when the device is customized for their networks and added to their stock device portfolio. Operators also sometimes change the UserAgent value as the page request passes through their networks.
  • UserAgent strings are moving targets. Once implemented, you’ll need to monitor the effectiveness of your code against the list of your high priority devices or platforms. “

Simple to find Lost Mobile

After reading this mail please preserve the IMEI number in a notepad and send to your gmail so that it will be permanetly with u
An IMEI number-The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number is an international identity number used to uniquely identify a mobile phone. The 15-digit IMEI number is an electronic fingerprint transmitted every time a phone is used, which reveals the identity of the mobile handset.
How can I find out my IMEI number? IMEI numbers are independent of the phone number and are usually written underneath the battery or on the back of the handset. Mobile phone users can also check their 15 digit IMEI number by dialling *#06# on their mobile handset. Mobile phone owners should make a note of their IMEI number and keep the details in a safe place.
If u lost your mobile, send an e-mail to cop@vsnl.net with the following info.

Your name:
Address:
Phone model:
Make:
Last used No.:
E-mail for communication:
Missed date:
IMEI No.:

Mobile SEO best practices

Some tips for Mobile SEO best practices :
1. Use 100% valid XHTML 1.0 code. (Note: it is likely that WML will be phased out in the near future.) Many optimizers on the traditional WWW do not consider using valid code as a best practice. Mobile search engines however may have more trouble digesting invalid code. Be safe! If you validate, mobile search engines won’t have any trouble with your site.
2. Follow accessibility best practices. These will ensure that your content is accessible to anyone regardless of their platform — this includes mobile users and mobile search engines. The W3C’s Web Accessibility Initiative is a good place to turn for the latest information on accessibility. Dive Into Accessibility is also a useful tutorial.
3. Follow traditional on-site SEO best practices. You know the drill: major keywords in the title tag, H1’s and body text, keyword-rich anchor text for internal links, etc.
4. Getting spidered and indexed by mobile search engines
If you want mobile search engines to spider and index your site, they must know about it first. Submit your site to major mobile search engines for quick spidering.
